Vanessa Brodrick

My objective is to bring beautifully crafted art to life by encouraging engagement through discussion and understanding. By sharing my knowledge and passion I aim to demystify the art world, thereby helping my clients create a superior art collection tailor-made to their preferences.

Vanessa prides herself on being friendly and approachable in an industry that can be found daunting to the aspiring individual collector.

After graduating from Edinburgh University with an MA in History of Art, Vanessa began her career at Phillips (now Bonhams) on George Street in Edinburgh. In 2002 she moved to London to work at Christie’s in the Post War & Contemporary Department, going on to help establish and run a leading Modern British Gallery in St James’s.  Since her move back to Edinburgh in 2008, Vanessa has brokered deals and advised clients independently, and continues to develop excellent relationships with numerous galleries, artists and print publishers in London, Edinburgh and Cape Town.  In 2010 Vanessa became a partner in Cape Town’s leading boutique auction house, Provenance.

Selected examples of exhibitions that Vanessa have worked on include: Dale ‘vN’ Marshall, Solo Show at The Herbert Museum, Coventry, (2014); Freud at Work, Photographs by Bruce Bernard and David Dawson (2006) Gerald Laing - Works from the early 1960s (2006); Barbara Hepworth, Drawings from the 1940s (2005); Augustus John, Master Works 1900-1920 (2004) and Henry Moore: Master Drawings (2004).

Vanessa is passionate about art and loves sharing her knowledge and enthusiasm. She welcomes all enquiries and is happy to give independent and confidential advice.
